In the last section of the course, we make an intentional shift from thinking to doing. In the previous two units, you have spent a good amount of intellectual energy in discovering truths about your individual and social identities and about how various liberal arts disciplines help to interpret and express ideas about the world’s injustices. In the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph, it is now time to "address the needs of the time." This section of the course will challenge you to take actions confronting a social justice issue of our time that you care deeply about. You will use not only your mind, but also your heart and hands to engage in activities that contribute toward justice in our local and global communities.
Head: Use your intellect to understand complex social issues and to learn about people who have been engaged in working toward change.
Heart: Caring deeply about injustice is what motivates us to take actions to benefit the people, plants and animals of our world.
Hands: Action can take many different forms – some big and some small, some affecting our immediate neighbors and others affecting our global neighbors. We will use our hands to write, create, build, support, and contribute toward change.
